2 more events to go for the summer Sprint series.
Travel to Levin Intermediate this Friday, 21st February, and then Massey University in Palmerston North next Friday, 28th, to practice your Sprint O skills or just enjoy learning and practising your skills in these urban campus areas.
What is a Sprint course? If you are competitive, you will be using quick decision making while moving at a fast speed. You can expect constant changes of direction and route choice.
Of course, many of our competitors are just learning. For some it will be their first experience of orienteering, and they will need to practice their very basic skills, learning what is on the map, following the course, making sure they 'punch' all the controls and get back to the finish having enjoyed their walk/run and keen to come back for more.
Sprint events can be categorised as Easy, - short distance, very easy navigation with little room for error, control descriptions written out in English, Moderate, - medium distance, more choice of how to get to the next control, and Difficult, - up to about 3.5 k in length, lots of opportunities to decide the best route to the next control, with lots of direction changes all designed to make it as hard as possible. Often the Control Descriptions are written in symbolic form.
